INDONESIAN TEXTILE TREND FORECAST 2023-2024

BULETIN TEKSTIL.COM/ Jakarta – Trend forecasting is one of the most important guides for the textile and garment industry players in the world, including Indonesia. Every year, the textile and garments producers always strive to seek trend guides for at least one to two years ahead, in order for their products to be accepted in the market. All this time we are familiar with the trend forecasting aimed at the fashion industry, whereas, trend is also applied to all fields of design, including the textile industry. A few months ago, Buletin Tekstil featured an article about fashion trend forecast. Therefore, we would like to also feature trend forecast for Indonesian textile industry: Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024, presented by the Asosiasi Produsen Serat dan Benang Filamen Indonesia (Association of Indonesian Fiber and Yarn Producers), known as APSyFI, in collaboration with Indonesia Trend and Color Studies, Faculty of Fine Arts, Bandung Institute of Technology. On March 29th – 31st, 2023, the socialization of Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024 has also been held by APSyFI, as part of the socialization roadshows that have been organized in several big cities in Indonesia. This event is part of the event series in Indo Intertex – Inatex 2023, the biggest textile industry and textile products exhibition in Indonesia.

The Association of Indonesian Fiber and Filament Producers, often shorten as APSyFI, is an association that oversees 22 companies that produce yarns and filaments in Indonesia. Indonesia Trend and Color Studies is a forum for several researchers and practitioners in the field of craft, art, fashion, trends, animation, and art education, who have the vision of developing the science of Indonesian trends and colors in the perspective of art, craft, and design.

In his welcoming speech, Redma Gita Wirawasta, Chairman of APSyFI, stated that “Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024 is an important notion for the sustainability of textile (industry) in Indonesia. Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024 takes the idea of colors from current phenomena happening today so that it is inspired from the characteristic colors of Indonesian traditional textiles. The implementation on Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024 needs to be made into finished textile products so that they can be marketed, and mass produced. Collaboration between sectors, including government, academia, industry associations, designers and local brands is urgently needed to make the Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024 a center for a variety of colors, especially for the local market. Therefore, we can conclude that this trend forecast is intended for all Indonesian textile industry players whose products will later be marketed to the Indonesian local market.”

In the Preface of this book, it is explained that: “Trends are the directions that can be controlled and control various sectors of life. Overall reactivation that occurred in the post-pandemic world has become one of the drivers of changing trends in the years 2023-2024. Demonstrating identity and self-existence in the virtual universe has become an increasingly communal habit which also represents the true nature of the collective nature of the Indonesian nation. The awareness of enforcing ethics towards nature is a sustainable behavior that is also increasingly popular in society. Starting from these various phenomena, Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia was compiled as an identification of a variety of colors that are responsive to the latest phenomena and global color trends that shows the local values and the uniqueness of the extremely rich archipelago.”

Reka Warna Tekstil Indonesia 2023-2024 is divided into four major groups representing four specific color groups. The four groups are:

  1. Laksana Nyala

The color of red has a strong bond with the identity and traditions of the Indonesian nation, which among other things symbolizes courage, steadfastness, and alertness. Inspired by one of the Indonesian traditional textiles, Batik Tiga Negeri (Batik of Three Nations), as a means of acculturation of various cultures, this theme illustrates the idea of harmonious collaboration that is relevant of all times.

  1. Memeta Semesta

The virtual universe offers an escalation of life that is instantaneous and dynamic, but on the other hand the transparency of information often causes anxiety. This theme describes the efforts of human control to balance the acceleration of technology with the stability of belief and stance, as well as healthy mentality.

  1. Jumpa Matoa

The matoa fruit represents the natural wealth of eastern Indonesia, especially Papua. The taste is fresh, sweet, and can be accepted by the wider community, indicating high adaptability. Matoa is a plant with firm roots with two ways of reproduction, which also shows how an influence can be embedded in society, namely generative and vegetative.

  1. Kemari Lestari

The acceleration of technology makes lifestyles change quickly and are also obsolete. This theme represents everything that is natural and authentic, bringing back the true connection between humanity and the earth. Depicted in natural colors that are free from human engineering. It is in line with the Sustainable Textile 2030 campaign which is based on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
