Textile Industry Performance Contracted By 4.08% in 2021
BULETIN TEKSTIL.COM/ Jakarta – Textile and apparel industry’s GDP is Rp 127,43 trillion in 2021, the value is still contracted by 4,08% in comparison to the previous year.
Statistics Indonesia recorded the gross domestic product (GDP) at constant price of textile and apparel industry in 2021 is Rp 127,43 trillion. The value is still contracted by 4,08% compared to the previous year, with value of Rp 132,85 trillion.
The performance of textile and apparel industry continued to weaken since 2020 due to CoVID-19 pandemic. The industry’s GDP contraction is better compared to 2020 with 8,88%. The industry’s performance declined as people reduced spending on clothing, diverting the expenses on health. The public spending recorded clothing expenses fell by 12,07% to Rp 31.745 monthly in 2021, the component expenses also decreased from 2,95% to 2,51%.
The public spending shift to health during pandemic
Even during CoVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian people’s monthly spending is increasing though the pattern has shifted for health purposes.
The CoVID-19 pandemic has hit various joints of the domestic economy, causing income decrease of the Indonesian citizens. This condition is reflected in Indonesia’s per capita gross domestic product (GDP), amounted to Rp 57.3 million in 2020, decreased by 3.37% from the previous year which amounted to Rp 59.3 million. However, Indonesia’s income per capita began to recover again a year later, with an increase by 8.55% to Rp 62.2 million in 2021 of GDP per capita recorded.
Even though people’s income had decreased, this did not reduce their expenses. Based on data from the Stastistics Indonesia, the average monthly spending of the Indonesian people reached Rp 1.264.590 last year. This number continued the trend of increasing spending per capita in the last five years. In 2016, the average monthly spending per capita in Indonesia was Rp 946.258. The figure then rose 9,54% to Rp. 1.036.497 per month in 2017. Then, the average per capita expenditure per month rose 8,51% to Rp. 1.124.717 in 2018.
The average monthly expenditure per capita increased by 3,6% to Rp 1.165.241 in 2019. A year later, monthly expenditure per capita grew 5.19% to Rp 1.225.685. The value then increased by another 3,17% in 2021.
